Distressed hardwood flooring is available in many thicknesses. But if you do not have a specific reason to buy floors that are thinner or thicker than standard thicknesses, you are likely to end up with a standard-thickness product. The thickness varies depending on the type of hardwood you buy.

Distressed hardwood flooring that is not finished usually comes in 3/4 inch thickness. The typical floor plank has a wear layer that is 5/16 by an inch thick. This allows the floor to be completely painted many more times than a floor with a thinner layer.

Engineered floors are real deciduous trees; but, they are built differently than solid planks. Distressed hardwood flooring has a hardwood veneer on top of a plywood core. These floors look and feel like real deciduous trees, but the planks tend to be thinner. The standard thickness of a constructed floor is usually either 3/8 or 5/8 of an inch. This makes them an appropriate option when you do not want to add too much thickness to your existing floor.

Distressed hardwood flooring is another option for a floor that looks like hardwood, but who wants to spend less or is in an area with high humidity. Laminate flooring still looks very much like hardwood. However, a laminate slab is thinner and lighter than distressed hardwood flooring.
